Understanding the Moodle and Cavoodle Personality | Ruby Moodles and Poodles Sydney

At Ruby Moodles and Poodles Sydney, one of the questions we get asked the most is:
“What are Moodles and Cavoodles like in terms of personality?”
And the answer is simple — they’re absolutely wonderful.

We’ve spent years raising Moodles with love, structure, and lots of cuddles, and very soon we’ll be starting an exciting new chapter: our very first Cavoodle litter with our beautiful girl Cindy.

Here’s what we’ve come to love about these incredible breeds — and why we’re so excited to offer both in our program.

---

🧸 Moodles: Small in Size, Big in Heart

Moodles (Maltese x Poodle) are known for their affectionate and gentle nature.
They’re playful, cuddly, and incredibly attached to their humans. Many of our families tell us their Moodle becomes their shadow — following them from room to room, always wanting to be part of daily life.

They're great with:

Children

Seniors

First-time dog owners

Small homes or apartments

With proper socialisation (which we begin from birth), Moodles grow into calm, well-mannered companions who love both playtime and nap time.

---

🐾 And What About Cavoodles?

While we haven't had a Cavoodle litter yet, we’ve spent a long time preparing for it — learning, observing, and selecting the right foundation for a healthy, well-balanced line. Our Cavoodle mum-to-be, Cindy, has all the qualities we love:

Calm temperament

Gentle nature

Affectionate, with soulful eyes

And that soft, wavy coat that Cavoodles are famous for

From everything we know — and from the Cavoodles we’ve interacted with — this breed is:

Emotionally intuitive

Great with kids and elderly

Playful without being overwhelming

Very responsive to gentle training

They have a slightly more relaxed energy than Moodles, often making them excellent emotional support animals or therapy dogs.

---

🧠 Both Breeds Share a Common Gift: Intelligence and Trainability

Thanks to their Poodle heritage, both Moodles and Cavoodles are highly intelligent, quick to learn, and eager to please. This means they respond beautifully to positive reinforcement and love mental stimulation.

Whether it’s toilet training, basic commands, or fun tricks — they pick things up fast when raised with love and consistency.

In our experience with Moodles, early training not only builds confidence but strengthens the bond between puppy and family. We expect the same — if not more — from our future Cavoodles.

---

💛 Gentle, Loving, and Loyal

Both breeds are known for being emotionally in tune with their humans.
They sense your mood, stay close when you're not feeling your best, and thrive on connection.

If you’re looking for a dog who loves to be part of the family — not just a pet in the corner — either of these breeds is a perfect match.

✨ Final Thoughts

At Ruby Moodles and Poodles Sydney, we raise every puppy with love, purpose, and a focus on building strong foundations for a lifelong bond.
Moodles have shown us again and again how special these poodle crosses can be — and now, with our upcoming first Cavoodle litter, we look forward to sharing that joy in a new way.

If you’re thinking about welcoming one of these sweet, clever companions into your life, we’d love to walk that journey with you.

How Often Should You Groom a Moodle or Cavoodle?

Tips, Real Talk & Personal Experience

At Ruby Moodles and Poodles Sydney, grooming is not just a beauty routine — it’s a bonding experience. From soft teddy bear coats to playful paws full of grass and mischief, we’ve learned that grooming is about health, comfort, and connection.

Whether you're welcoming your first Moodle or Cavoodle, or you're already cuddling one on your lap, here's everything you need to know (with a few real-life tips from our experience).

---

🧼 1. Brushing: 3–4 Times a Week (Ideally Daily)

Why it matters:
Both Moodles and Cavoodles have hair (not fur), which means it keeps growing — and it tangles easily, especially behind the ears, under the legs, and around the collar.

Our experience:
We start brushing our puppies young — as early as 3 weeks — so they get used to the feeling. Some love it right away, others squirm, but with gentle handling and calm energy, they quickly learn that brushing = love.

Pro tip:
Use a slicker brush for daily brushing and a metal comb for detail work. Keep sessions short and sweet if your pup is new to it.

---

💧 2. Bath Time: Every 3 to 4 Weeks

Why it matters:
Overbathing can dry out their skin, but regular baths help control odors and keep their coat fresh — especially after muddy adventures!

What we’ve learned:
We always recommend using a gentle, pH-balanced puppy shampoo. At home, we towel-dry gently and use a pet-safe blow dryer on low heat. Puppies that start early with baths tend to grow into calm, confident dogs at the groomer.

Pro tip:
Make bath time fun! Talk to your puppy, offer treats, and keep towels warm in winter.

---

✂️ 3. Haircuts: Every 6 to 8 Weeks

Why it matters:
Their hair grows continuously and, without regular trims, it can mat and block vision or trap moisture around sensitive areas.

From our litters to yours:
Many of our adoptive families love the classic “teddy bear” trim — short around the face, rounded on the ears, and even all over the body. We always encourage finding a groomer who understands poodle mixes, as their coat can vary from wavy to tightly curled.

Pro tip:
Book your groomer in advance, especially before warmer months or holidays — they fill up fast!

---

👂👀🐾 4. Ears, Eyes, Nails & Paws: Weekly Check-ins

Ears: Clean gently with pet wipes or vet-recommended solution. Moodles and Cavoodles have floppy ears — which means moisture can get trapped and cause infections if not monitored.

Eyes: Tear staining is common. Wipe daily with a soft damp cloth or use tear-stain pads.

Nails: Trim every 3–4 weeks, or as needed. If you hear clicking on the floor, it’s time.

Paws: Keep fur trimmed between pads to avoid matting and dirt buildup.

Our approach:
We check all these during play or cuddle time. Make it part of the routine, not a chore. The more you handle your pup's face, feet, and ears early on, the easier vet and grooming visits will be later.

---

❤️ Grooming Is About Connection

One of the sweetest parts of raising puppies is how grooming becomes a way to connect. It's quiet time. It's "I love you" time.
Some pups will play, others will doze off — but most will come to love those moments as much as we do.

---

Final Thoughts:

Grooming isn't just for looks — it's a foundation for health, trust, and bonding.
Whether you’re brushing daily or preparing for your first professional trim, go slow, be gentle, and always make it a positive, loving experience.

At Ruby Moodles and Poodles Sydney, we’re always happy to share what’s worked for us — and cheer you on as you build your own special routine with your pup.
